The Open University and Jobcentre Plus partner to upskill people through online platform

Category: EU / EAER news

An initiative between the Open University, the Department of Work and Pensions and Jobcentre Plus to tackle the common skills gaps among jobseekers is to be rolled out across the United Kingdom.

The initiative gives people looking for jobs and receiving a job seekers allowance access and support to a hub of free skills-based courses through an Open University online platform. The initiative hopes to enable people to recognise their existing skillsets and to build new skills to increase their employment opportunities.

Over 1000 free courses are available covering a range of areas such as leadership, networking and career resilience. The courses are designed for learners lacking in confidence, including people who have not recently been in a learning environment or people who have negative experiences with education.
